Brand Identity Consistency Audit Template
Find public inconsistencies in your app’s name, website, owner and description, then correct authoritative owned surfaces with evidence.
When to use this template
Use this after a rename, ownership change or discovery of conflicting public descriptions that may confuse people researching the product.
Choose another approach when: You want to manufacture an identity, impersonate another brand, or claim control over independent reviews and external AI answers.
Gather these inputs
- The approved public brand identity and canonical website.
- An inventory of owned profiles and relevant public references.
- Evidence for any name, ownership or destination change.

Worked example
Illustrative example, not a Crany customer result. Replace every example detail with facts you can verify.
A fictional app changes its public name from Draft Handoff to Handoff Notes. Its own homepage uses the new name, while an owned profile still links to a retired prototype domain. The audit records the evidence for the rename and updates the owned profile through the normal authorized workflow. An independent article is recorded separately because the founder cannot silently rewrite it. The final check follows the public link and compares the visible description; it does not assume that an external search index refreshes immediately.
How to use it
- Establish the current identity from approved public facts.
- Compare owned surfaces and record external mismatches without overstating control.
- Correct authorized owned references and verify the live destination and wording.
Check before using it
- The owner identity is public and approved for disclosure.
- Similar brand names are not merged without evidence.
- An edited profile is distinguished from an updated external index.
What to measure
Track broken owned links and contradictory factual descriptions resolved. Consistency can reduce confusion, but it does not establish a knowledge panel, unique entity match or guaranteed AI recommendation.
Research and sources
Accurate content and clear working links support the audit. The identity inventory is an original editorial process rather than a search-engine entity registration method.
