Product Demo Opening Script Template
Write a video opening that matches the title promise and starts demonstrating a real app task before a long founder introduction.
When to use this template
Use this when your tutorial or demo has a clear viewer task but the opening spends too long on company background or unsupported claims.
Choose another approach when: You cannot show the promised workflow, need to conceal a limitation, or want a sensational hook unrelated to the video.
Gather these inputs
- The exact task promised by the title and thumbnail.
- A real starting state and completed result in the app.
- The setup or limitation viewers need to know before following along.

Worked example
Illustrative example, not a Crany customer result. Replace every example detail with facts you can verify.
Title: “Create one client approval record instead of another email thread.” Opening image: the completed approval record in a demo account. Spoken opening: “I’ll show you how to send one design for review and keep the approval beside that version. You’ll need a project and a client email address.” The recording immediately shows creating the review item. It does not open with a minute about the founder’s productivity philosophy. If an approval requires the client to sign in, that condition is stated rather than edited out of the journey.
How to use it
- Check the title and thumbnail before writing the first spoken line.
- Record the actual workflow, keeping necessary setup and limitations visible.
- Watch the opening as a new viewer and compare later retention observations with the promise delivered.
Check before using it
- The opening promises only what the video demonstrates.
- The first useful action is visible and understandable.
- A prerequisite is not hidden merely to make the workflow appear easier.
What to measure
Use the video-level retention report to inspect early exits alongside comments and the actual opening content. A better-looking retention curve alone does not prove that viewers successfully used the product.
Research and sources
YouTube recommends aligning packaging, the opening and delivered value, and provides retention diagnostics. The opening script and client-review example are original production tools, not a guaranteed retention formula.
