When to use this template
Use this when an organic search report and a site analytics report appear inconsistent. Preserve original exports and definitions before assuming traffic disappeared or measurement is broken.
Choose another approach when: You intend to allocate omitted queries to a preferred channel, treat different metrics as equivalent, or change privacy controls simply to make report totals closer.
Gather these inputs
- Both exports with timestamps, time zones and date boundaries.
- Definitions for search clicks, sessions and channel/source classification.
- Property, host, page, device and consent-related measurement scope.

Worked example
Illustrative example, not a Crany customer result. Replace every example detail with facts you can verify.
Fictional handoff site compares Search Console clicks for a Pacific Time week with analytics sessions for an India Time week. The first step aligns boundaries and the included hostname. A residual difference remains. The reviewer checks how the analytics tool collects sessions and records collection limitations without changing consent settings. The conclusion says the two reports measure different things and the remaining cause is not established. No invisible search queries or “lost customers” are invented to balance the spreadsheet.
How to use it
- Identify metric and scope differences before computing a discrepancy percentage.
- Align what can be aligned and distinguish documented limitations from proven account-specific causes.
- Assign a focused investigation while preserving unresolved values and the original exports.
Check before using it
- Daily time boundaries are explicit for each source.
- A search click and a website session are not assumed interchangeable.
- Privacy-related omissions are not reverse engineered or treated as identified visitors.
What to measure
Track discrepancies explained by a verified scope or implementation finding. Reconciliation confidence can improve while a numerical difference remains; a close total is not proof of correct attribution.
Research and sources
Google documents omissions, aggregation, processing and time-zone differences, including the separate 24-hour-view condition. This original reconciliation does not infer an account-specific cause or equate search clicks with analytics sessions.
- Google Search Console: Troubleshooting data discrepancies — checked 2026-10-24. Aggregation, row limits, anonymized queries, time zones and processing can explain reporting differences without identifying an account-specific cause.
