When to use this template
Use this when a public resource needs a deliberate preview decision for specific content. Write down the intended restriction and its consequences before requesting a technical change.
Choose another approach when: The content is confidential and should not be public, you expect a directive to secure it, or you want to force Google to display exact promotional copy.
Gather these inputs
- The public URL, relevant content section and reason for the request.
- Current snippet-related markup and any broader page directives.
- An authorized reviewer who understands the intended preview tradeoff.

Worked example
Illustrative example, not a Crany customer result. Replace every example detail with facts you can verify.
Fictional public calculator page contains reusable explanatory text and a dated demonstration output. The owner considers excluding only that example section from snippets so an old example is less likely to appear out of context. The reviewer compares that narrow proposal with suppressing snippets for the entire page and records the lost preview information each would cause. No private customer data belongs on this public page at all. A snippet attribute is not proposed as a substitute for removing public exposure through an authorized privacy fix.
How to use it
- Identify the exact public preview concern and separate any access-control problem.
- Review the narrowest appropriate restriction and its effect on useful descriptive previews.
- After an approved implementation, verify markup and record later observed snippets without promising exact text.
Check before using it
- Snippet controls are not described as encryption or access control.
- The implementation affects the intended section or page only.
- A requested restriction is distinguished from an observed search-result outcome.
What to measure
Record whether the intended restriction was implemented and what later search observations show. Preserve query and date context because automatically generated previews can vary between searches.
Research and sources
Google documents automatic snippets and available controls. The change-review process is original and differs from writing a meta description; it does not guarantee a chosen preview or protect sensitive public content.
- Google: Control snippets in search results — checked 2026-10-24. Automatic query-dependent snippets and page/section preview controls including nosnippet, max-snippet and data-nosnippet; these controls do not protect confidential public content.
