SEO URL Inventory Template
Inventory public app-marketing URLs with their purpose, response, canonical, discovery links and indexing evidence before changing the site.
When to use this template
Use this before a site audit, migration or content expansion when the team does not have one reliable list of the pages it intends to expose to search.
Choose another approach when: You intend to include private account routes, infer indexing from an HTTP response alone, or run a destructive cleanup without a verified inventory.
Gather these inputs
- The public website host and intended page groups.
- A source of known URLs, such as the sitemap and internal navigation.
- Read-only access to response headers and any available search-console evidence.
Copy and adapt the template
Edit the text below and copy it into your own document. Edits stay in this browser field and are not submitted or saved by this page.
Worked example
Illustrative example, not a Crany customer result. Replace every example detail with facts you can verify.
An illustrative app website has a public feature page at /client-checklists and a private dashboard at /workspace. The inventory records the feature page’s successful response, its self-canonical and a link from the product overview. Search-console status remains “unknown” until verified access supplies evidence. The dashboard is recorded as private and is not added to the marketing sitemap. A successful authenticated response is not interpreted as a reason to make it public. The next action is to fix a missing internal link, not to delete a route merely because it has little observed traffic.
How to use it
- Collect URLs from the live public sitemap and navigation, retaining the source of each discovery.
- Inspect the response and page-level signals without changing access or content.
- Prioritize evidence-backed issues and preserve a dated baseline before editing.
Check before using it
- Private routes and personal records are excluded from public discovery lists.
- A 200 response is not labeled as proof of indexing.
- The inventory identifies the actual canonical host rather than assuming the brand apex serves every page.
What to measure
Track whether intended public pages have coherent responses, canonicals and discovery paths. Use actual search-console evidence when available to assess indexing; inventory completeness alone does not measure rankings.
Research and sources
Google documents discovery, canonical signals and crawlable links. This read-only inventory and prioritization worksheet are original operational guidance, not an instruction to expose private routes or a substitute for search-console verification.
