Setup Assistance Email Template
Offer help after a verified setup stall without pretending you know the cause or pressuring someone who simply chose to stop.
When to use this template
Use this when product state reliably indicates an incomplete setup and contacting the user is appropriate. Describe the incomplete step neutrally and provide a simple route to help.
Choose another approach when: Your event data cannot distinguish a completed setup from a failed one, the user opted out of the relevant messages, or the email would expose sensitive activity on a shared account.
Gather these inputs
- A verified incomplete setup state and the relevant product screen.
- Known safe troubleshooting steps, if any.
- A support contact and a way to stop unnecessary reminders.

Worked example
Illustrative example, not a Crany customer result. Replace every example detail with facts you can verify.
Subject: Need help previewing your first checklist? The fictional app shows a saved draft checklist but no completed preview. If you were interrupted, you can resume from the project page when convenient. If the preview button produces an error, tell us which screen you were on and the error wording. Do not email a client’s private instructions or account credentials. The message does not claim “we saw you struggle” or assume the person abandoned the product because it was confusing. It offers help for a known state while leaving room for an intentional pause or imperfect event reporting.
How to use it
- Validate the state used to trigger the email, including possible false positives.
- Offer the smallest safe next step rather than a long unrelated feature tour.
- Stop or adjust the reminder when the task is completed or the user changes preferences.
Check before using it
- The message does not reveal sensitive user behavior.
- The diagnosis is not presented as certain without evidence.
- The assistance path works independently of another marketing signup.
What to measure
Track useful support replies, successful setup completions and false-positive complaints. A higher reply rate is not necessarily better if recipients are replying because the trigger is inaccurate.
