App Preview Shot List Template
Prepare an app preview with real interface footage, a complete task and production notes that prevent misleading edits.
When to use this template
Use this before recording a product preview so you know which real app states, actions and result screens must be captured.
Choose another approach when: You need a cinematic brand film that does not demonstrate the product, or the feature is still a design mockup presented as working software.
Gather these inputs
- A task that works in the app version being promoted.
- A demo account and capture device with private data removed.
- Current preview specifications for the platform and device.
Copy and adapt the template
Edit the text below and copy it into your own document. Edits stay in this browser field and are not submitted or saved by this page.
Worked example
Illustrative example, not a Crany customer result. Replace every example detail with facts you can verify.
Illustrative task: turn a saved recipe into a grocery list. Start state: a demo recipe with four ingredients visible. Shot A shows the recipe, shot B the actual “add ingredients” action, shot C the destination list, and shot D an item being checked off. Keep ingredient names consistent across shots. If the app requires confirming quantities, include that step instead of cutting directly to a result that seems automatic. Use captions that explain the visible action; avoid a narrator claiming features the screen never demonstrates.
How to use it
- Rehearse the full task without recording and identify every state the viewer needs.
- Record clean takes with consistent demo data rather than inventing interface elements in editing.
- Review the final cut against the working product and current platform requirements.
Check before using it
- The preview uses real UI and does not conceal a necessary step.
- Private records, notifications and credentials are absent from the capture.
- The task is understandable when audio is unavailable.
What to measure
Review whether a new viewer can explain the demonstrated task after watching. Store conversion reporting, when available, is separate evidence from successful export or upload.
