Prepare accurate product facts for a specific directory, checking category, availability and submission requirements before treating a listing as eligible.

When to use this template
Use this when a legitimate directory reaches people with the product’s task. Start with the destination’s current requirements and distinguish a prepared submission from an accepted public listing.
Choose another approach when: You are buying a collection of low-value backlinks, plan to invent a launch state or customer rating, or cannot identify a useful audience reason for the listing.
Gather these inputs
- The directory’s current public eligibility rules and requested fields.
- The product’s approved public facts, real access state and canonical destination.
- Permitted assets, submission ownership and any actual fee or review requirement.

Worked example
Illustrative example, not a Crany customer result. Replace every example detail with facts you can verify.
Fictional example: a founder considers listing a handoff product that currently offers only a waitlist. The pack records that state instead of selecting “available now” to satisfy a directory field. For Product Hunt, the founder checks its specific prerelease guidance and notes that an email-signup-only product is not eligible for the homepage. That platform’s rule is not copied into the rules for every other directory. The founder holds any claim of homepage eligibility rather than treating a prepared description as acceptance. A different destination requires a working public demo. The pack records that missing prerequisite and an honest next step. It creates no listing, pays no fee and fabricates no reviews.
How to use it
- Check the particular directory’s current rules and audience relevance.
- Map its fields to approved facts and expose unresolved eligibility or access gaps.
- Verify acceptance and the actual public destination separately from submission.
Check before using it
- The listing describes current availability rather than the hoped-for roadmap.
- Directory-specific eligibility is not generalized to every platform.
- No review, rating, badge or endorsement is fabricated to complete a field.
What to measure
Track relevant eligible destinations, rejected or uncertain submissions, factual corrections and verified live listings. Inspect useful referral outcomes separately. Listing count and a platform’s acceptance do not establish backlinks of a particular value, rankings or qualified demand.

Product Hunt’s10February2025help article prioritizes usable products, allows discretionary prerelease exceptions and excludes email-signup-only products from its homepage. This original fact pack uses that as a destination-specific example, not a universal directory rule.
- Product Hunt: Can I submit an unreleased product? — checked 2026-10-24. 10February2025 destination-specific prerelease policy, discretionary exceptions and email-signup-only homepage exclusion. No universal directory eligibility or acceptance guarantee.
