Founder Distribution Time Audit
Account for actual marketing preparation, publication and follow-up time so a founder can allocate effort without mistaking estimated activity for results.

When to use this template
Use this when marketing feels busy but the team cannot explain where its time goes. Capture preparation, channel participation, maintenance and follow-up alongside outputs and observation limits.
Choose another approach when: You need a controlled experiment result, want to rank staff by surveillance data, or plan to label a channel unprofitable without a suitable outcome window and cost definition.
Gather these inputs
- A bounded review period and voluntarily provided activity notes or estimates.
- The concrete marketing outputs and follow-up obligations during that period.
- Known available capacity, other commitments and actual aggregate outcome reports.

Worked example
Illustrative example, not a Crany customer result. Replace every example detail with facts you can verify.
Fictional example: a founder initially counts only the minutes spent publishing a community contribution. The audit also records adapting the example, reviewing rules, answering relevant questions and correcting a broken destination link. An owned worksheet requires more setup in the same period, but may serve readers later. The founder separates that initial effort from recurring maintenance instead of declaring the worksheet a failed channel before a suitable observation window. Some time was spent on both assets, so it is recorded once as shared preparation rather than charged in full to both. The next week’s allocation reserves space for follow-up and remains revisable. No fictional time or conversion figures are presented as Crany results.
How to use it
- Record the full distribution activity rather than only time spent pressing publish.
- Separate observations from estimates and reconcile shared time against available capacity.
- Make a bounded allocation decision with delayed outcomes and measurement gaps visible.
Check before using it
- Setup, maintenance and follow-up are not silently omitted from effort.
- Shared work is not counted in full against every channel.
- A short observation window is not treated as a completed return-on-investment study.
What to measure
Track accounted versus unexplained effort, recurring obligations and whether the next allocation fits available capacity. Compare measured outcomes only under compatible definitions and mature windows. This is time accounting and planning, not a validated productivity score or causal channel ranking.
Research and sources
Atlassian’s capacity-planning play includes observing activities, overhead, time allocation and review. This original founder-distribution audit adapts those ideas without prescribing its meeting format or claiming a universal optimal workload.
- Atlassian Team Playbook: Capacity planning — checked 2026-10-24. Observe activities, include overhead, distinguish projects and review time allocation. Team exercise adapted to founder planning, not a validated productivity benchmark.
