When to use this template
Use this before designing store screenshots when the team has a working app but cannot agree which screens explain the core task to a first-time visitor.
Choose another approach when: The screens show unavailable features, the design relies on invented review badges, or you need final device-specific upload specifications rather than a creative brief.
Gather these inputs
- A real supported user task and the app version that completes it.
- Screens captured from the actual interface with appropriate demo data.
- The device targets, locales and current platform asset requirements.

Worked example
Illustrative example, not a Crany customer result. Replace every example detail with facts you can verify.
Illustrative app: an available shared grocery-list tool. Frame 1: “One list for tonight’s shop.” Show a demo list with ordinary items and no real household data. Frame 2: “Add an item before someone leaves.” Show the actual add-item interface. Frame 3: “See what has been picked up.” Show checked items in the real list view. Do not add “Save five hours a week” unless you have relevant evidence. Do not draw collaboration indicators that the released app cannot display. Review the sequence at a small display size before exporting the required assets.
How to use it
- Choose one coherent user story before selecting attractive but unrelated screens.
- Capture the exact released interface and replace private records with realistic demo data.
- Review captions, legibility, order and current platform specifications before submission.
Check before using it
- Each caption is supported by the visible app state.
- No screenshot implies unsupported availability or a fabricated endorsement.
- The first frames communicate the task without depending on a long description.
What to measure
If you run a platform-supported creative experiment, compare the defined treatments and reporting window. A polished sequence is a testable presentation choice, not proof of higher installs.
Research and sources
Apple recommends showing real app usage and a coherent feature story. The three-frame structure and grocery-list example are original creative planning aids, not mandatory Apple specifications.
