When to use this template
Use this when considering a specific creator, educator or software business for a joint resource. Examine relevant public work and identify a credible benefit for both audiences before contacting anyone.
Choose another approach when: You only have a follower count, intend to exchange private mailing lists, or want another company’s reputation to imply an endorsement it has not given.
Gather these inputs
- Public examples showing the potential partner’s audience tasks and subject expertise.
- Your own supported contribution and current product or access limitations.
- A specific shared reader problem and known practical constraints on collaboration.

Worked example
Illustrative example, not a Crany customer result. Replace every example detail with facts you can verify.
Fictional example: a founder notices a freelance-design educator repeatedly explaining client handoff problems. The educator’s examples suggest overlap with the checklist task, but the founder has no verified audience-conversion figures. The brief proposes a practical resource combining the educator’s process knowledge with an accurately labeled software demonstration. It records the limited pilot access and does not promise that every learner can use the product immediately. A general business-accounting newsletter has a larger apparent audience but little evidence of the same task. It remains a weaker fit despite its size. Neither organization is listed as a partner, and no contact or audience list is exchanged by this assessment.
How to use it
- Collect concrete audience-task and expertise examples for the actual candidate.
- Describe both the overlap and exclusions before proposing a complementary contribution.
- Record unresolved assumptions and make an explore, hold or decline decision.
Check before using it
- Public follower counts are not treated as qualified reach or expected leads.
- A proposed collaboration is not displayed as an existing endorsement.
- Audience records, contact rights and distribution commitments are not assumed.
What to measure
Review how many proposed partners have concrete task overlap and a credible complementary contribution. Later compare those hypotheses with information a partner actually provides. Do not report a fit score as validated demand, a signed agreement or campaign performance.

HubSpot’s own co-marketing program describes aligned audiences, goals and expertise. This original pre-partnership brief adapts that principle; HubSpot-specific download targets, hosting requirements and eligibility are not universal partnership rules.
