When to use this template
Use this when a product release, customer change or new placement could make an old endorsement misleading. Review the asset and its underlying approval rather than refreshing only the publication date.
Choose another approach when: You want to recycle an old quote as evidence for a feature the customer never used, assume a logo proves current endorsement forever, or conceal uncertainty by changing the date.
Gather these inputs
- The exact existing asset, live placements and original approval reference.
- The product/task/version actually experienced and current material changes.
- Evidence for any present-tense use claim and the owner responsible for corrections.

Worked example
Illustrative example, not a Crany customer result. Replace every example detail with facts you can verify.
Fictional example: a customer quote describes an earlier manually assisted workflow. After a major release, the homepage design places it beside a new automation claim. The revalidation sheet identifies that the quote cannot substantiate the new feature merely because it is authentic. The team checks the original approval and whether the placement implies current use. If the supporting facts are unknown, it holds the new reuse rather than inventing continuing endorsement. Any revision needs appropriate exact-material approval and a verified correction at the actual placement. This worksheet does not delete a customer record or revoke access; it assesses whether marketing proof remains accurate.
How to use it
- Inventory the exact asset’s placements and the claims each context now implies.
- Compare current product and relationship facts with the original experience and approval.
- Choose a bounded correction or reuse decision and verify the resulting public wording.
Check before using it
- An older quote is not used to prove an unexperienced new feature.
- Present-tense endorsement and reuse scope are supported rather than assumed.
- A refreshed date does not substitute for factual revalidation or approval.
What to measure
Track stale proof corrected, unsupported new placements held and unresolved reapproval requests. Verify actual public corrections separately from an internal decision. This sheet does not certify legal reuse rights or typical customer results.
Research and sources
The US FTC discusses older endorsements and continuing accuracy; HubSpot describes customer participation in stories. This original asset-level revalidation is separate from obtaining initial permission and is not a legal release or assumed customer approval.
- US FTC: Endorsement Guides - What People Are Asking — checked 2026-10-24. Truthful experience, understandable material-relationship disclosures and continuing accuracy of older endorsements. Facts and jurisdiction remain material.
- HubSpot: Customer success stories — checked 2026-10-24. Practitioner publishing workflow includes requesting participation and using real customer evidence; not a legal release or proof that a customer approved any particular claim.
